Return Visit Day

Friday was our big return visit day. Our guide Tina met us in the hotel lobby at 630am. Our driver took us the 20 minutes to the train station where we waited for our  train for about 30 minutes. The most grueling part of this trip for the boys has been all the sitting around, which is not a big activity in our house :) Our train ride was an hour and 10 minutes, or 12 games of Uno.  There we met another driver who would be our driver for the day. Twenty minutes later we were pulling into Xinyang SWI, where Evan lived until we adopted him. Immediately we were greeted by a familiar face who took us upstairs.  Evan charged ahead of us all excitedly. And then quickly all the nannies came out, and Evan was hugged and squeezed and held by all.

After we spoke for a bit, we went and waited in the directors’ office until 11am when the nannies had their break for lunch. In the office, the boys were presented toys and milk drinks, and they even had our family day photo pulled up on the computer.   At 11am we went to a nearby restaurant for lunch. The boys warmed up enough to show their Kung Fu routine, and Tom and I found every video we had of the boys to share a glimpse of Evans life in China. At the end of lunch, Tom got the nannies to share on video, with Tina translating, memories of Evan and hopes for his future.  It was a priceless gift.  At the end the nannies thanked us for bringing him and I knew we had done the right thing by adding the extra days on to the trip and making these visits.

Next we started the 1 hour trip to Luoshan. Again, we were greeted by several familiar faces-Ben's special nanny who brought him to us, along with the two deans we had lunch with 5 years ago when we adopted him.  He, like Evan, became very shy but allowed himself to be hugged and loved on.

We stayed for about an hour and told them all about Ben, and answered their many questions.  We showed them more photos and videos (in addition to what I had brought and left with them) and Tom got a video for Ben with his telling telling stories about him also.  Then it was back to Zhengzhou - first the one hour drive, then a 50 minute wait for our train.  Once again, thank you technology- the four of us were able to play the game Life via an app I bought, and the time went pretty fast.  The boys were asleep by the time the train arrived at the station.  Thankfully Saturday is a day of rest!!!
